Frequently asked questions
A cement grout activator is a liquid polymer additive or admixture mixed with standard cementitious grout to enhance flexibility, bonding, adhesion to tile edges, and water resistance, as well as improving workability and durability.
Adding a grout activator in place of water ensures better mechanical performance, resistance to cracking, and superior bonding—especially important in bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, and other wet areas.
Follow the manufacturer’s recommended ratio—commonly, 100 ml of activator is mixed with approximately 230 ml of water to be blended with 1 kg of cement polymer grout, or as per specific product instructions.
Grout activators are designed for cement-based and polymer-modified grout products—always check compatibility with the grout type and tile/stone; avoid using activator with epoxy grouts
- Do not add more activator than recommended (can cause slow setting or color issues)
- Mix until smooth and lump-free
- Apply grout as usual, ensuring joints are packed and excess grout is cleaned before curing
- Do not add more water to reconstitute paste if it hardens in the bucket
Activators should be kept in tightly sealed containers, away from direct sun or frost, and used within 12 months of manufacture for best properties.
